Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City
April 19, 2016

A collaboration between Buchan and Lendlease Design, the expansion of Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre has transformed the centre into a leisure destination that offers more than just a diversified retail mix. The centre is integrated into the surrounding community, creating a true lifestyle experience for shoppers.
The expansion includes a new Myer department store, approximately 95 local and national retailers and the revitalisation of Station Square, a vibrant new al fresco dining precinct that has improved connectivity to the existing rail and bus interchange.
Buchan’s design for the redevelopment draws upon a greater city related master plan, strategic environmental responses and a subtle recognition of the original landmark architecture.
The design relationship between the exterior and interior of the new expansion seeks to create an innovative and dynamic retail architectural solution which is complimentary to the original shopping centre, whilst creating a new contemporary aesthetic specific to the community and Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City.
A distinct and striking visual geometry and angular disposition defines the centre, and internally, the main fashion mall delivers a refined and environmentally responsive aesthetic featuring suspended sails designed to control and disperse natural light.
