The new Galada Community Centre is part of the Aurora Town Centre development by Places Victoria for Whittlesea Council. The project sits at the heart of the Town Centre and has been designed to reflect its residential context.
The Buchan Group’s design includes roofs that are pitched and punctuated with skylights and decorative glazed brickwork that creates an interesting face to the main street facade.
The entry brickwork features earthy tones inspired by aboriginal inhabitants of the local Galada creek. The glazed bricks are arranged in abstract symbols acting as a place marker to the street corner. The bricks on the west facade are arranged in an abstract tree motif mosaic in anticipation of the mature landscape in years to come.
The centre comprises a Kindergarten with three classrooms, a large community hall with a full commercial kitchen, multipurpose meeting rooms, planning activity groups for older adults and Maternal Child Health facilities.
Galada Community Centre opened to the community in February 2015.
