Excitement builds for luxury hotel in North Queensland

Port Douglas will soon be home to a new $300 million five-star Fairmont resort, with construction due to get underway on the luxury accommodation in Q1 this year. Buchan has been selected to lead the architecture for the iconic Fairmont brand as it enters a new landscape.

Working in close collaboration with Hotel Operator Accor, Developer Chiodo Corporation and Landscape Architects Durie Design, the vision for the 253-room environmentally-conscious resort is inspired by the jewel of the wet tropics – the UNESCO World Heritage Daintree Rainforest.

Biophilic design principles are applied throughout, with the elliptical and organic form of the balconettes creating an opportunity for flora and fauna integration across the façade. The result is a carefully curated a botanic journey to heighten the senses, whether by the pool, in the public indoor-outdoor spaces, or unwinding in their private suites.
