The newly opened Sunshine Plaza shopping centre in Maroochydore, Queensland provides visitors with a unique shopping experience which embraces and celebrates the art and history of the local community. The Lendlease development is a part of a $440 million redevelopment and expansion, which will add a total of 35,000 sqm to the retail space of the centre.
Displayed in the heart of the centre is the Bunya Nut Art Instillation created by Buchan in collaboration with UAP Company. This piece pays homage to the Sunshine Coast region and the culture of the local Indigenous Gubbi Gubbi people to whom the Bunya tree is both a vital food source and a revered part of their culture. Locality continues to be celebrated throughout the retail centre, with custom wallpaper artwork by local artist Cass Deller, archival photographs from the Sunshine Coast Library and photography by Brett Mcintosh.
Buchan provided architecture and interior design services for this project in conjunction with CRTKL and Lend Lease Design, as well as supplying graphics.
