New Zealand’s largest shopping centre, Sylvia Park, is set to become even bigger with the opening of its $277 million expansion next week. Offering almost 60 new stores and a new dining precinct ‘The Terrace at Sylvia Park’, the centre provides shoppers with a retail experience which delivers excitement, choice and convenience.
Keeping customers comfortable and well orientated was key to the design of the expansion – which spans over 20,000sqm – and was achieved through creating clear view lines throughout, minimising the need for extensive signs or wayfinding. Simple yet elegant forms and finishes are illuminated by thoughtful lighting which further adds to the timeless design.
“During the day the centre will be flooded with diffused natural daylight through a continuous line of skylights in the roof, stretching from end to end.
At night discrete, unseen light sources will up-light the curved surfaces of the ceilings providing an even glow and unique soft ambience in the space – a counterpoint to the drama and visual excitement of the shops.” Principal Robert McFarlane explains.
