As the architects for the original development Buchan were appointed to undertake the design for the expansion project. We created the upgrade to the new luxury precinct in the middle of the centre, with a richer palette of materials and increased the use of vegetation to create a distinctly different environment.
For the new retail space in the northern extension we carefully crafted a design to complement the existing customer flows within the centre. In particular, the addition opens up invitingly to a carpark to encourage (with the help of new, site-wide signage) customers to use all the new car parking available. The main entry in this corner marks a large, canted, sculptural place-marker. All the shopfronts are well shaded and the architectural forms of the awnings and façade continue the eclectic feel of the original centre.
The graphic design elements also form an important part of the project. Wayfinding signage, tenants’ shopfront signage and directory signs provide a great customer experience.
