The curated and coordinated design of the centre not only facilitates greater collaboration and placemaking outcomes but also tourism and economic growth for the city centre of Taichung.
Buchan led the concept and schematic design for the façade and double-decked bridge that connects the two blocks, facilitating movement around the centre that has been designed to support the burgeoning population of 3.2 million people living within a 30-minute radius.
The design is inspired by the vivid colours of its local surrounds. A pixelated treatment blends the North Building with the greenery of the adjacent Yongquan Park in contrast to the lower South Building which reflects the brick and stone walls of the adjacent Taichung Jianguo Market to the east.
Buchan has worked with Mitsui Fudosan for close to two decades and is proud to be a part of the transformative LaLaport Taichung Shopping Centre development alongside FORMium Landscape Architects and Ishimoto.
