The retail component of this four-building complex comprises 63,000sqm over three levels, featuring a multi-function central atrium event space and an array of dining options, lifestyle and fashion retailers – a complement to its neighbouring mixed-use community.
The interior environment takes inspiration from the external architectural expression and its parkland surrounds, but most importantly responds to the natural beauty and coastal context of the city to create a sense of place with a distinctive and unique identity.
This sense of place is expressed through an artistic treatment of finishes and materials, inspired by the organic textures of bamboo, porcelain, seaspray and zen sand gardens, augmented by indoor landscaping, sculptural seating forms and green walls.
Zones flow from one to another within the distinct buildings which are connected by a series of sky bridges – active walkways akin to the vibrant pedestrian streetscape below.
Natural tones, warm metallics and soft lighting imbue a feeling of tranquil elegance as people meander through the spaces.
Decorative void edges draw focus towards the ground floor atrium, strategically planned so that permanent installations can mix with temporary elements to create the “centre stage”. The spatial flexibility to present a range of events – from pop-up markets to a fashion show – means visitors to Powerlong Shimeidi will enjoy a different and dynamic experience every visit.
Buchan undertook review of retail planning and interior design for the development.
