WaterGardens Town Centre and Station Streat

Melbourne, Australia

Overview

The $150 million redevelopment of Watergardens Town Centre conveys the energy of a growing city and creates an enticing destination.

At the heart of the revamp and central to the design is a new mall, anchored by a new tenant mix – Safeway and Big W, with 100 new specialty retailers. The mall links to the existing centre at the new, expanded food court. The retail centre integrates with WaterGardens Railway Station and bus interchange.

A major feature of the design is a dramatic glazed atrium that extends over the creek, linking the existing centre and the food court to the new mall.

Environmental graphics are also a significant element of the new development and are used to re-brand existing entries.

Station Streat is an active street within Watergardens and comprises restaurants and cafes. Sidewalk dining, extensive landscaping, artwork and lighting combine to make a vibrant destination. The materials palette creates a range of tactile experiences familiar in a ‘High Street’ environment. There is also a vibrant town square as well as the new Council-owned Sydenham Library. A new AMF Bowl has recently added to the drawing power of the precinct.
