A key aspect of the design was ensuring the space resonated with the diverse, local community of Blacktown. Buchan embraced this by integrating an array of tactile, textured surfaces, coupled with abundant lush greenery, to bring interest to the previously plain plasterboard mall.
The space was revitalised with pixelated terrazzo floor tiles, which lighten as the flooring radiates from the atrium and away from the natural light. The textured surfaces absorb the light from the atrium, softening the public space. Newly installed frameless glass balustrades recede into the background, against the large-scale planters filled with verdant landscaping that line the void edge and infuse the retail node with life.
The ambience upgrade covered 40,000 sqm GLA with two mini majors and 5000 sqm of public retail space over two levels.
